Lesson
Soccer Monster – Four or five students will be picked to be the soccer monsters.  The soccer monsters will stand in the center of the gym holding or wearing a flag.  They are guarding the “haunted forest” and will try to disrupt the students traveling through the forest by touching their soccer balls.  If someone has their ball touched by a soccer monster, they must trap their ball and count (1st and 2nd grade will count to twenty, 3rd – 5th grade will say the 2’s, 3’s, or 4’s times tables).  After counting they may continue to travel across the gym.  The soccer monsters will get 1 point for every ball they touch, the dribblers will get one point for every time they can get across the length of the gym.  If a dribbler is trapping their ball, a soccer monster cannot touch the ball.  After each turn, the old soccer monsters will choose a new soccer monster to take their place. This activity can be used for a warm-up for older students or a whole class activity for those younger.
