Lesson:
Roll the Dice
Students will be broken up into two equal teams.
Each team will wear one different color flag to help delineate
team members. Each team will stand on an opposite line in
the center of the game area about 12 feet apart. Behind each
team line there will be a safe line. The basic concept is,
the team the wins the roll-off will get to chase the other team
and try to tag them.
Depending on grade level and the math skill involved, the teacher
will give the teams different names (high/ low, odd/ even.
etc.). The teacher can pick one student from each team
to come to the middle and role the die for their team. After
the dice are rolled the tagging will begin. If a player from
the other team is tagged, they will join the new team for the next
round. If the players can get to the safe line without
being tagged then they will stay on their team for the next
round. The team with the most players at the end wins.
Odd/ Even
(Grades 3 - 5) |
Whatever the combined total of the two die
are will be the number used for odd and even. If it
is an even number, the evens will chase the odds, etc.. |
High/ Low
(Grades 3 - 5) |
If the numbers add up to 6 or less, the low
team wins and will chase the highs. If the number is
8 or higher, the highs win and will chase the lows.
If the numbers equal to seven, everyone must to push-ups
or some other activity picked by the teacher. |
Highest Number Wins
(Grades 1 - 2) |
Each die will be labeled. The team
with the highest number on their die gets to chase the
other team. If it is a tie, both teams must do that
many push-ups or other activity picked by the teacher. |
Safety Concerns:
Students should avoid pushing when the tag another player.
Students must watch out for each other during the game so they
will not run into each other.
